Jo works on a number of large scale projects throughout the year, collaborating with significant organisations, arts workers, suppliers, community groups and festivals. Her skills in communication and time management are integral to her companies success, as is her long term relationships with the community.

Every year Jo plans and manages new and exciting events for the Western Australian community. Despite a global pandemic, Jo was able to re-configure her projects and continue to deliver. During the 2020/21 period she only had 1 cancellation which was unheard of in the events industry. Jo’s recent events included:

Bunbury Fringe

Bunbury Fringe is the cultural event of the year. the Bunbury Fringe Festival brings together a selection of cutting-edge, diverse and eclectic shows that will open your mind to the quirky side of Bunbury. Audiences can experience everything Fringe, including comedy, burlesque, new works by regional artists, drag, street parties, jazz and more. Bunbury Fringe 2023 was the 7th year for the festival, and was by far the best yet, in so many ways. During an 8 day period from January 20 to 28, they hosted 136 artists across 31 shows.  The Fringe Garden continues to shine and reached a level where it became its own attraction to visitors and artists alike.   

To deliver this festival efficiently, Jo managers a team of 6 short term contractors and 40 volunteers. The event is overseen by a committee

South-West Multicultural Festival

The South-West Multicultural Festival is truly an iconic and very special event which continues to grow. It draws together thousands of people from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds. The festival takes place in the heart of Bunbury’s CBD and incorporates curated market and food stalls, dance, theater, workshops and games. Kaya Collie Quarry Dinner & South32 Hello Summer Concert

To celebrate Collie’s 125 years as a gazetted town, Jo and her team were contracted by the Shire of Collie, to deliver 2 key events. This included a black tie dinner in a unique quarry amphitheater at Wellington Dam. With no resources such as power or water, Jo took on the challenge and presented a delicious 4 course meal served by renowned chef, Fervor. In addition guest were entertained by the Australian Baroque Orchestra. This was followed by a free family concert in the heart of town, headlined by The Black Sorrows.

Koolambidi Woola

In 2022 Jo was contracted to create 2 events for the new City of Bunbury precinct, Koolambidi Woola. This include a formal launch in May and a 3 day activation event where every space of the precinct was to be utilised. The activation occurred in October and included skateboarding, roller skating, parkour, circus adventures, BMX, basketball and loads of kids games. This precinct has gone on to wine national awards for its design.

Collie Mural Art Trail

Jo has the privilege of working with highly respected artist and collaborator Andrew Frazer from Six Two Three Zero. Together they have delivered a 3 year street art festival called ReDiscover Bunbury which culminated in over 30 murals by national and international artists. From this the continued their work with the City of Armadale to incorporate ReDiscover Armadale and a community project in the newly developed Champion Centre. In 2020 Jo was privileged to again work along side Andrew to roll out the Collie Mural Art Trail. Forming part of the Collie Trails Project, Jo was contracted to work with Six Two Three Zero to manage and facilitate the many murals scattered throughout the town, and in conjunction with the painting of the iconic and historic Dam Wall Project. This dam wall artwork is the biggest artwork by an artist in the Southern Hemisphere, spreading across the entire wall of the Wellington Dam. If you are ever in the area it is worth the visit.

 
 
 

The Nannup Flower and Garden Festival

An annual festival that celebrates impending spring with colour and vibrancy. The town of Nannup opens it doors to thousands of visitors with workshops, open gardens, tours, activities and market stalls. Included in the program are cooking demonstrations and functions where people can mingle with visiting celebrities. Past festival’s have welcomed Silver Logie winner Costa, Gardening Australia’s Millie Ross, and garden gurus Derryn Thorpe and Steve Wood. 2020 saw the festival have to think outside the box, and what emerged was an event that now runs over 4 weekends and 3 weeks during August and September. In addition to the traditional activites, large scale artworks are incorporated into the programming, blending Jo’s love of art and nature, art reflected in life. WA Alternative Wine Varieties Show

An industry event over 4 days. A team of national judges find the best wines coming out of the region, and the best alternatives coming out of the state. The Wine Show provides the opportunity for regional producers to benchmark their wines. This 4 day event includes judging, masterclasses, a judges dinner, and exhibitors tasting, all culminating into a gala presentation. Jo has managed this event for 15 years. Jo O’Dea and her events company have provided administration and coordination to our Geographe Wine Industry Association over several years and continues to deliver incomparable support to the Geographe Wine Show. Without doubt, our Wine Show has achieved its success in large parts due to Jo’s panache, work ethic and attention to detail. A great asset for any organisation or business seeking excellent results!
